Session 11: Overcoming Disappointment
Purpose of the Class
As we obey Jesus’ command to “Go,” we will inevitably face disappointment, rejection, and even persecution. This class is designed to bring those realities into the open because unspoken or hidden disappointment can quietly erode our faith.
By acknowledging that disappointment is part of the journey (even Jesus experienced it), we create space to heal, grow, and move forward. When we learn how to process and overcome disappointment with a biblical perspective, we become resilient and unstoppable followers of Jesus.
Class Preparation
Take time this week to examine your heart. Has disappointment slowly chipped away at your faith, passion, or sense of purpose? The longer we walk with the Lord, the more chances we’ve had to feel let down or discouraged.
Don’t ignore it, acknowledge it. Bring it before God. Make a fresh decision to release what’s weighing you down and press forward in faith.
You don’t have to walk through it alone. Sometimes the healing begins by simply talking with a trusted friend, mentor, or pastor. Remember: leaders aren’t bulletproof, and we don’t have to pretend we are.
Final Note
If you've worked through disappointment this week or previously, consider sharing your story briefly with the class. It can encourage others to be honest about their own struggles. Remind students that overcoming disappointment isn’t a one-time event; it’s an ongoing process of guarding our hearts and staying anchored in truth as we follow Jesus.
