Session 11: Life on Mission

Purpose of the Class

In this session, we want to address the belief that missions are just overseas ministry for people called to be missionaries. Instead, we will examine Jesus’ words just before His ascension, in which He states that His followers would be witnesses of Him from their own hometown to every part of the globe.

The goal for this class is to inspire action within your community. Seeing mission work as a lifestyle, not an event.

Class Preparation

This class highlights the importance of being involved in the local community to share the love and Gospel of Jesus. Reflect on this area of your life.

  • Where are you currently involved? Prepare to share any opportunities you’ve had in this area.

  • If you are not currently involved, where could you give some time?

  • Are there things you could do together with the group?

Consider ways to tailor this teaching to your students. What are their strengths that you can point out that will help them feel empowered to walk out their mission?

Final Note

It’s easy to overlook this when you are actively serving in the church; however, some organizations require very little time or commitment and may be great opportunities to meet new people and be a light in your community.
